Feeding America today issued the following statement in response to President Barack Obama’s State of the Union Address:
Statement attributable to Bob Aiken, CEO of Feeding America:
“In his State of the Union Address tonight, President Barack Obama spoke about income inequality and creating opportunity for all Americans.
“We believe that the best starting point for this goal is to ensure that every American has enough to eat.
“Sadly, this is not the state of our country today – 49 million Americans, including 16 million children, are food insecure, according to the USDA.
“Feeding America calls on both parties, the President and the Congress to work together on important child nutrition legislation to ensure that all children have the food they need to learn, grow, and thrive in America.”
