Chicken Of The Sea Helps Fight Hunger With Donation To Feeding America

March 16, 2010

To aid the national fight against hunger, Chicken of the Sea International recently provided a donation of healthful seafood to the nation's largest domestic hunger-relief organization, Feeding America.

Chicken of the Sea's contribution to Feeding America included more than 16,400 cases, or nearly 200,000 individual 6-ounce cans, of red salmon. The total donation is valued at more than $300,000 and will provide a healthy protein source to thousands of individuals and families in need.

"I have witnessed the positive effect the organization has had not just on the local community, but also across the country," said John Sawyer, Chicken of the Sea's vice president of sales and marketing, who also serves on Feeding America's San Diego board of directors."Chicken of the Sea is proud to have Feeding America as our charitable arm and continues to support its efforts both locally and nationwide."

Chicken of the Sea first partnered with Feeding America during the organization's relief efforts following Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Chicken of the Sea made food donations to the hunger organization to help those affected by the tragedy. More recently, Feeding America and Chicken of the Sea collaborated on the seafood company's Mermaid Jingle Jam contest. The contest asked participants to submit a new verse to the company's famous jingle, emphasizing the benefits of Chicken of the Sea seafood. As part of the Mermaid Jingle Jam, Chicken of the Sea donated more than $150,000 worth of seafood to the Feeding America food banks in the grand-prize winner and two runners-ups' home towns combined.
