Missing: Milk In Your Local Community

Great American Milk Drive Participates in Hunger Action Month

For many of us, milk is a staple in our refrigerator and part of our everyday routine. But for children and families in need in your community, it may be missing.

Milk isn’t just a drink—it’s a nutrient powerhouse providing nine essential nutrients, including eight grams of high-quality protein per 8 oz. serving.

Those in your community who rely on Feeding America-member food banks are in need of milk, and far too often, it’s just not available. On average, food banks are only able to provide the equivalent of less than one gallon of milk per person per year. That’s far less than the USDA-recommended three servings each day.

According to Feeding America, milk is one of the items most requested by food bank clients, yet it is rarely donated. The shortage is because, while donors are generous with canned and dry goods, milk is much harder to donate because it’s perishable.

Milk plays an important role in the fight against hunger – a problem that affects 1 in 6 Americans, including nearly 16 million children in all counties across the country, including yours.

September is Hunger Action Month™ – The Feeding America network’s nationwide campaign that unites communities to take action against the issue of hunger and help reach the 49 million Americans who struggle with food insecurity. It is also an ideal time to support families and children in your community with your donations through The Great American Milk Drive.

This September, join us in the fight to make sure that every American has the nutrients they need to power their potential.
