Today the Senate passed the new farm bill, which cleared the House last week. President Obama is expected to sign the bill into law soon.
While there were good aspects of the bill (we are grateful it included additional funding for The Emergency Food AssistanceProgram, which provides nutritious food to food banks), Feeding America is deeply disappointed in the $8.6 billion cut to SNAP included in the legislation.
This cut will no doubt hurt many people dependent on SNAP to feed their families — especially since they come in addition to cuts that already took place this past November. The cuts will further hurt families like Jaime's, who I met this past December. Jaime generously took the time to share her story with us, and let us know how critical food stamps are to her family's survival.
Watch Jaime's story below.
