While more than 60 percent of children in Florida qualify for free or reduced lunch, only about 9 percent participate in feeding programs. However, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is able provide breakfast and lunch to more than 3,000 children a day.
The mothers, fathers, grands, aunts, uncles, sibs and kids served by the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida network of partner agencies are people who usually live with more than just the stress of hunger.
Feeding America Tampa Bay discusses its partnership with Mother’s Organics Humus Farms in creating a composting program. The food bank is able to save money in dumping fees and have the unusable produce go to good use.
