Healthy food lays the foundation for good health. But when money is tight, too many families — two-thirds of the households served by the Feeding America network — face hard choices between paying for medical care and putting food on the table.
Online Marketplace aims to eliminate current barriers to highly perishable, small-volume food rescue by directly connecting donors to meal service programs and food pantries nearby with the oversight of the local food bank.
In July 2014, twenty dedicated store donation coordinators began work at 20 different Feeding America food bank members joining 16 coordinators made possible from Walmart’s 2013 funding. The coordinators’ mission is visit all of their local retail grocery stores to secure more food and groceries.
