I am grateful for my SNAP benefits; I know we would go hungry without them. However, the amount we receive dictates that each meal we purchase remain under two dollars per person. It is impossible to feed my family the organic, whole fruits and vegetables that I believe are best for us on that budget. It is the garden and the ability to purchase seeds and seedlings with SNAP benefits that allows me to fill that gap.

1. You're not alone. Nearly 48 million people rely on SNAP to help put food on the table, nearly half of all SNAP beneficiaries are kids. 2. SNAP benefits will decline for all participants on November 1. Even if Congress makes no changes to SNAP funding in the farm bill under consideration this year, benefits will decline for all participants on November 1, 2013. When the ARRA benefit boost expires, benefits will fall on average by $20-25 for a family of three.
