On September 30, the child nutrition bill will expire and it’s time Congress got to work. Child Nutrition Reauthorization sets funding levels for all of the federal school meal and child nutrition programs.
Meals provided through the child nutrition programs often provide the healthiest and most nourishing meal that a child receives all day. That is why it is vitally important that Congress works to reauthorize the child nutrition programs this this year – investing in expanding program access to close the child meal gap.
Like many of you, I listened carefully as President Obama laid out his goals for 2015 during last night’s State of the Union address. It is an ambitious agenda, but I felt it lacked a key goal: passing a strong child nutrition bill that invests in our nation’s future.
