For the past couple of summers, God’s Pantry Food Bank in Lexington, KY has hosted an event to kick off the beginning of summer feeding programs for children.
During the school year, over 21 million children receive free and reduced-price breakfast and lunch each day through the USDA’s National School Lunch Program. But, when school is out, many children who rely on these meals go hungry.

I had the privilege of participating in my first Feeding America Day of Impact this month. Each year, the Feeding America National Office team volunteers at local food pantries and agencies and works closely with those dedicated to helping others.
When you get two meals and a healthy snack at school each day and struggle for enough on the weekends, facing summer is not as exciting. Community Kitchen of Monroe County – located in Bloomington, Indiana – works to reach as many children struggling with this situation in the summer as possible.
