This March, Feeding America, the nation's largest domestic hunger-relief organization, is recognizing National Nutrition Month®, an education campaign sponsored annually by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, in honor of the 1 in 6 Americans that lack access, at times, to enough food for an active, healthy life.
To highlight the nutrition and overall health efforts of Feeding America, we are hosting a #BetterHealth Twitter Chat with health partners from across industries. Join the chat to learn about and advocate for programs and policies that aim to alleviate the nutrition challenges faced by the more than 50 million Americans struggling with hunger.
Panelists include Kristi King, spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Elaine McLaughlin of MyPlate, the USDA's Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion, and Samantha Harris, television personality, fitness enthusiast, and Feeding America Entertainment Council member.
Feeding America strives to provide those facing hunger not only with enough food to fill them up, but also the accessibility to healthful, nourishing foods. Feeding America endeavors to provide our clients with Foods to Encourage, such as fruits and vegetables, protein, whole grains and low-fat dairy. These foods are emphasized in the 2010 USDA Dietary Guidelines, but they are often out of reach for many of the families we serve.
The Feeding America network is committed to helping food insecure families get the healthy food they need to"Eat Right, Your Way, Every Day", the theme of this year's National Nutrition Month®.
