WHAT: As part of National Nutrition Month®, Feeding America, the nation's largest domestic hunger-relief charity, invites you to join a Twitter chat to learn about and advocate for programs and policies that aim to alleviate the nutrition challenges faced by the nearly 49 million Americans struggling with hunger.
Panelists include celebrity chef and registered dietitian, Ellie Krieger, Lizbeth Silvermann of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food & Nutrition Service, Dr. Robert Post of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Center for Nutrition Policy & Promotion, and David Weaver, Executive Director of South Plains Food Bank in Lubbock, TX.
WHY: Clients of the Feeding America network of more than 200 member food banks and 61,000 partner food assistance agencies are often unable to access or afford the variety and quantity of foods needed for a healthful diet. The Feeding America network has created a strong foundation geared towards getting wholesome staples to the 37 million people we serve each year. As a result, Feeding America is uniquely positioned to help those who struggle with hunger while also promoting better nutrition by increasing access to healthful food like fruits and vegetables, raising awareness of the coexistence of hunger with other diet-related diseases, and by promoting nutrition education.
We would like to thank our partners in hunger-relief and nutrition, who will also be participating in the Twitter chat: Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (@EatRightMembers), Jewish Council for Public Affairs (@theJCPA), League of United Latin American Citizens (@lulaclvghealthy, @lulacnational), National Council of La Raza (@NCLR), and Share Our Strength (@CookingMatters).
