Millions of Veterans Struggle With Hunger

November 10, 2015

As our nation commemorates Veterans Day and the heroic efforts of the US Military, past and present, it is important to note that many men and women who have served our nation now face hunger.

According to Feeding America’s Hunger in America 2014 study, the use of food assistance is widespread across America. Our organization serves more than 46 million people annually – including 12 million children and 7 million seniors.

Twenty percent of the households Feeding America serves have a member who has served or is currently serving in the U.S. military.

With such a high rate of food insecurity among our veterans, two things are important. First, we must do everything possible to ensure that the federal nutrition safety net continues to be fully funded so that all veterans, and all Americans, have access to adequate amounts of healthy food.  Secondly, we ask all those who are able to help to support the work of Feeding America, and our efforts to provide food and groceries to more than 5 million American each week.
