Milk is one of the items most requested by Feeding America® food bank clients, yet there is a nationwide shortage because it is rarely donated. That’s because while Americans are generous with canned and dry goods, we often don’t think to donate fresh items like milk because it’s perishable. On average, Feeding America food banks are only able to provide the equivalent of one gallon of milk per person per year. With eight grams of protein per serving and three of the top nutrients most likely to be missing in the American diet—calcium, vitamin D and potassium—milk is a way for America’s feeding programs to get nutrients into the hands of people who need it.
More than 1 million gallons – that’s over 16 million servings – of milk have been donated to food banks through The Great American Milk Drive, the first-ever nationwide program to deliver nutrient-rich gallons of milk to children and families who need it most. Yet, there’s still more to do.
Sweeten this holiday season for a family in need when you send a Cheryl’s® Great American Milk Drive Cookie Gift to your family and friends. Through December 31, 2017, Cheryls.com will donate 15% of proceeds from Great American Milk Drive holiday gifts to help provide nutrient-rich milk to children and their families.
Donations to The Great American Milk Drive will go to local food banks based on the donor’s zip code and be distributed in the form of milk coupons. Visit milklife.com/give for more information on The Great American Milk Drive and the need for milk in America’s food banks.
