Job Responsibilities

This position is responsible for the completion and oversight of the delegation (if applicable) of a range of financial activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, payroll, grant disbursements, management of budgets and administrative support to the Executive Director. This position is also responsible for the direct supervision of other finance staff members, including staff accountant.and accounting assistant/clerk.

Minimum requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Minimum of three (3) years of experience in accounting Knowledge of inventory control Knowledge of government grants and their reporting requirements Strong proficiency in MS Excel, Word and Quickbooks Accounting Software


Minimum salary consideration 45,000.00 annually. Healthcare (food bank pays 75% of premium); dental, vision. 16 days vacation, 12 sick days, and federal holidays.

Located in Huntington, WV, supporting a network of more than 220 member agencies, the Food Bank’s service region spans 17 counties across West Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio.

Additional Information

-Maintain compliance & updates in all areas of the established food bank Accounting Policies and Procedures as well as the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

-Prepare monthly financial statements and invoices for reimbursement each month in a timely manner.

-Oversees the staff accountant in maintaining accounts payable and receivable, ensures expense reports and disbursements comply with operating procedures in order to control expenses; communicates procedures to staff members for compliance. Allocates and posts transactions to subsidiary accounts in general ledger and other accounting systems.  Prepares checks for the appropriate signatures.

-Reviews bank statements and other financial documents, researches discrepancies and reconciles accounts with general ledger; communicates discrepancies or problems to the Executive Director. Prepares bank deposits in accordance with the established Accounting Policies and Procedures.  Administers petty cash fund, ensures expense documentation is correct and complete, reconciles and replenishes account as needed.

-Interacts with staff members on payroll issues, processes time off, makes sure proper documentation for withholdings support transactions, enters payroll information into a format compatible with outside vendor requirements, verifies payroll registers, interfaces with outside payroll vendor or payroll software to process and reconcile transactions, distributes payroll and handles other confidential materials requiring a good knowledge of payroll and IRS requirements.

-Assists in the monthly closing process. Ensures all monthly posting are completed in a timely manner. Identifies and compiles outstanding payables and receivables for accrual. Assists the Executive Director with research on outstanding transactions. Prepares reports and updates schedules as needed. Completes the reconciliation of bank statements by pooling required supporting documentation including online transaction reports and EFTs. Director of Finance will play a significant role in year-end close and audit preparation.

Compensation is commensurate with experience.
