Job Responsibilities

A. Stakeholder Communications (70%) Improve communications with organizational stakeholders (including executive staffs, program staffs, and board members of member food banks, as well as partner agencies) and Feeding Texas funders to build a shared vision for the future of food banking and actively engage these audiences in its execution.
• Develop and maintain annual communications strategy / plan and associated content calendar.
• Develop compelling narratives of Feeding Texas’ work and successes / best practices from around the state.
• Produce regular e-newsletter design and content.
• Produce annual report.
• Oversee production of periodic reports and other content highlighting Feeding Texas’ work.
• Measure audience awareness and engagement through feedback loops and periodic surveys.
B. Advocacy Communications (30%) Manage external communications channels to maintain the Feeding Texas brand and persuade key audiences to support public policy changes aligned with Feeding Texas’ strategic goals.
• Manage social media and website communications; oversee contractors as needed and assist with content generation / changes. (10%)
• Assist in developing annual news media strategy/plan and associated content calendar. Assist in drafting and pitching press releases, media advisories and opinion pieces as needed. (10%)
• Assist in overseeing story gathering initiative and ensuring that client voices are included in all communications channels (10%).

Application Qualifications

A. Education, Experience, and Training
• At least three years of full-time, wage-earning experience in a communications or public information position within a business environment and/or a non-profit organization.
• Related bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent work experience.
B. Knowledge and Skills
• Excellent writing and research skills.
• Excellent organizational, planning, and problem solving skills.
• Ability to conduct “investigative journalism” among Feeding Texas’ stakeholders.
• Working familiarity with publishing software (e.g. MS Publisher, Adobe Suite, MS Office) and social media tools (e.g. Mailchimp, Facebook, Twitter, Canva), or demonstrated ability to learn these quickly.
• Knowledge of food insecurity / poverty issues and public policy-making preferred.
C. Attributes
• Customer service orientation and ability to quickly build trust.
• Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects’ timelines with attention to detail and accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
• Able to work independently with little or no supervision.
• Strong ethical character capable of exercising good judgment and discretion and handling confidential information.
• A demonstrated commitment to Feeding Texas’ organizational goals, values and strategies.
