Job Responsibilities

•Develop and execute a comprehensive ETFB marketing plan that will maintain its strong brand identity and organizational image.
•Develop and execute the ETFB Nutrition Education Program’s SNAP-Ed plans and approaches to include
1) individual and group-based direct nutrition education strategies,
2) comprehensive multi-level interventions at the institutional level, and
3) broad community and public health approaches.
•Effectively manage approved budgets associated with ETFB marketing and SNAP-Ed program.
•Create and maintain local media relationships through frequent and on-going communications with these contacts.
•Identify and present newsworthy media opportunities to the print and electronic media in an interesting manner, with the objective of obtaining television and radio air-time and placing stories in print publications, including daily and weekly newspapers and magazines, both secular and religious.
•Network and make connections with medical and healthcare organizations and related corporate providers in seeking collaborative opportunities for ETFB’s hunger relief and nutrition education programming.
•Act as the secondary media spokespersons for the East Texas Food Bank, after the CEO, as provided in the Media Relations Policy,
•Write media copy, including news releases, media advisories, and public service announcements, as well as radio and video scripts.
•Write interesting, informative, and accurate features and news articles, speeches, letters to the editor, and opinion editorial pieces for submission to various publications under the name of the CEO.
•Create monthly and other periodic board reports and employee newsletters.
•Produce brochures, reinforcement materials for use in nutrition education classes, health fairs and other related functions.
•Negotiate third party provider and media contracts as required.
•Oversees and supports the Nutrition Education staff
•Oversee the Online Communications Coordinator
•Research and make recommendations for improvements to the ETFB’s website and all social media channels.
•Assist the Development Department in the planning and promotion of special events through the media.
•Collaborates with and supports the Development Department with the review of direct mail and fundraising campaign newsletters and other materials.
•Provide public relations training and technical assistance to partner agencies as needed. •Work with the CEO to support the ETFB’s advocacy initiatives with Feeding Texas and Feeding America.
•Work in support of achieving the East Texas Food Bank’s strategic planning goals.

Application Qualifications

•College degree in a relevant field and/or equivalent work experience.
•Knowledge of the East Texas area and its diverse communities, including hunger and poverty issues.
•Strong written and verbal communication skills, bilingual English and Spanish a plus.
•Ability to occasionally travel and attend after hour events and activities.
•Background in working with governmental agencies and other nonprofits is preferred.

The mission of the East Texas Food Bank is to fight hunger and feed hope in East Texas. The Food Bank’s team is dedicated to building community awareness and creating an efficient food distribution network to eliminate hunger in East Texas. Established in 1988 by a small group of local citizens, the East Texas Food Bank addresses the critical issue of hunger in East Texas. Nearly two decades later, the Food Bank has expanded its scope of services building on partnerships with hunger-relief organizations while at the same time bringing new programs and services to alleviate hunger. The Food Bank procures, sorts, inspects, processes, and distributes food and other grocery products to hungry people through a network of community- and faith-based organizations throughout 26 counties. The Food Bank provides information about the region that is used to educate public and governmental officials about the nature of and solutions to the problem of hunger. The Food Bank, a member of Feeding America, will continue to expand and extend its programs and services to communities all across the region.

Additional Information

The Communications & Marketing Director is responsible for educating the East Texas Food Bank’s various constituencies about its programs and services and works towards providing a supportive environment for the provision of community nutrition education and the solicitation of financial funding, food donations and volunteers.  This position will accomplish these objectives by keeping the East Texas Food Bank (ETFB) in the public eye through collaborative networking, fostering effective media relations and producing compelling print, video, web and social media.
