Communications Design and execute on short- and long-term strategic communications strategies with input from key internal and external stakeholders Oversee the development of consistent messaging across the organization to promote CAFB’s mission, vision and values Build internal and external content, such as fact sheets, position papers, marketing materials and the annual report, for dissemination across CAFB’s website, social media, newsletters, and more, with a particular eye for CAFB’s specific audiences and constituents Establish communications standards and systems including branding and style guides, social media content policies, and inter-departmental workflows Develop and monitor key performance indicators to track progress towards goals for the communications function Train internal stakeholders around communications best practices and systems Work in partnership with other internal stakeholders such as the Member Services Director and Program Managers to develop key marketing pieces that will further CAFB’s work Develop and manage a communications and marketing budget to maximize resources and work in partnership with finance staff members to track and report out on these finances Development Develop and implement annual fundraising strategy, including overseeing the development department, its staff, budget, and systems Design and lead a sponsorship program for CAFB’s bi-annual conference Lead all cause marketing efforts, through identifying and responding to opportunities and building relevant marketing partnerships Review and collaborate on grant proposals and other writing projects as needed Work in partnership with finance and accounting teams to develop and track the development budget as well as to fully integrate development data into CAFB’s overall financial systems Manage effective reporting and communication with the Board of Directors, particularly with the Development Committee
At least 7 years of experience in, and progressive leadership of, functional areas such as external affairs, communications, marketing, and development with prior experience building and leading strategies for these functions Superb writing abilities, with proven success tailoring messages to a variety of audiences, particularly in translating complex policy and advocacy work to a diverse range of stakeholders Ability to develop a strong foundation of communications standards, workflows and branding guidelines while disseminating content across multiple mediums, including social media, newsletters, and more A track record of success with integrating communications and development strategies, ideally with prior experience building out a communications function Experience successfully leading corporate sponsorship and cause marketing initiatives An innovative and opportunistic approach to identifying new opportunities to advance the mission of an organization through strategies that position it to be a thought leader, develop new partnerships, and/or receive philanthropic support Capable of managing both independent and highly collaborative work and a commitment to continuously improving systems and processes Commitment to the mission of CAFB and knowledge of food banks and/or experience in human services agencies highly desirable Knowledge of regional or statewide California philanthropic community preferred Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required

CAFB is seeking a highly skilled professional to build out the organization’s communication function while overseeing a development team that leads CAFB’s fundraising efforts. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Communications will supervise a Senior Manager, Foundation and Corporate Relations and a Development and Communications Associate. S/he will ensure that CAFB has the marketing and communications strategies, workflows, and systems in place to effectively advance the organization’s anti-hunger programs and advocacy work while raising the funding necessary to continue to increase CAFB’s impact in this space.
