Job Responsibilities
  • Conduct FSF’s grant writing efforts including (but not limited to) researching opportunities, developing strategies, overseeing the accuracy of grant applications and meeting all grant deadlines and compiling monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports.
  • Compile and maintain hunger related material and statistical data, including the compilation of external data from other sources.
  • Ensure data, message accuracy, and consistency throughout all grant applications and reports.
  • Work closely with Community Investment Managers to seek new corporate, foundation and government grant revenue sources.
  • Research foundations and send LOI requests.
  • Work closely with programs, agency relations, and distribution team members to ensure successful execution and capture of grant activity.
  • Develop and maintain all timelines for grants and projects with all appropriate FSF departments.
  • Provide support for the Community Relations and Finance Departments through maintenance of records, files, spreadsheets, and reports.
  • Conduct other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Community Relations.
Application Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Human Services, or a related field (Master’s Degree preferred).
  • Impeccable verbal and written communication skills, including proper grammar and knowledge of AP Style Writing Guidelines.
  • Grant writing experience with private foundations, government (local, state and federal) contracts, and corporations, to name a few.
  • Computer literacy; ability to use Windows-based software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher) as well as customized internal systems such as grant tracking software and database management.
  • Ability to multi-task, maintains composure, productivity, and meets deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to learn quickly and grasp new overarching concepts while ensuring attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Flexibility and the ability to work as a member of a professional team.
  • A positive attitude and desire to take the initiative.
  • Efficient time management and innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with foundation representatives, agency representatives, volunteers, donors and community leaders.
  • Must maintain a valid Florida Drivers License and an insured personal vehicle.


  • Based on OSHA Standards Lifting requirements are 50lbs and when lifting loads heavier than 50lbs, use two or more people to lift the load.
  • This position works in a typical office setting. There may be extended periods of sitting, standing and/or bending; listening, talking and/or visual concentration; writing and/or computer use.
  • After business hours work is required occasionally throughout the year.
  • Frequent travel between quad-county areas using personal vehicle is required.
  • Occasional same day, out of town travel for meeting, conferences and special events using personal vehicle and/or public transportation is required.
  • Occasional overnight, out of town travel for meetings and conferences using public transportation is required.
  • Involves activities in both office and warehouse environments with exposure to the climate and South Florida weather.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

*Note: This is an in-house, full-time position. Contractors and/or writing firms are not eligible to apply. 

As part of the Development Team, the main function of the Grant Writer (GW) is to secure funding for Feeding South Florida (FSF) through the writing of grants, including reapplication for current grants, and the acquisition of new ones. The GW is responsible for the research, writing, and reporting of grants, from the LOI, to the RFP, and stewardship process. The GW works closely with all departments to ensure deadlines are met, information is accurate, and that funds are raised in support of FSF’s mission.
