Participate in all strategic planning processes and activities.
Serve as a member of the management team and as such provide leadership in decision-making, vision building and strategic guidance in all areas of SHFB.
Provided supervision and oversight to SHFB’s distribution and warehousing of food in keeping with Feeding America’s, AIB and other food safety guidelines.
Ensure the smooth operation of food warehousing and distribution systems, as well as transportation and logistics.
Develop and manage departmental budget in the context of SHFB’s overall annual budget.
Analyze current technology infrastructure, provide recommendations and ensure smooth implementation of new systems.
Develop and oversee the systems necessary to assure confidentiality of client and donor data.
Produce or improve existing scorecard metrics throughout the Operations department.
Collaborate on new program initiatives, planning, and decision-making, keeping in mind the SHFB’s goals and objectives; Help identify new opportunities and priorities without mission creep.
Work cooperatively with staff and volunteers to support the mission of SHFB and meet and sustain SHFB goals.
Positively contribute to an organizational culture of safe and secure food handling, warehousing and distribution.
Coordinates activities across departments to ensure smooth operations.
Build both paid and volunteer staff into an effective team to work toward SHFB’s mission and goals.
Interact with Feeding America (and various regional or sub-regional food bank organizations) to enhance and further SHFB’s work to fight hunger locally, while working cooperatively with other food banks in the national network.
Lead through influence; ability to prioritize and communicate to staff about key objectives necessary to achieve organizational goals.
Ensures communication and information flow within operations and between departments in the organization. Responsible for business continuity and disaster relief plans, in collaboration with other team members.
Instill a coaching culture.
Minimum of ten years of prior management experience in operational roles.
Demonstrated senior leadership with strategic, policy, and budget planning experience in complex organization.
Five years’ experience with distribution/logistics systems preferred.
Experience with food distribution preferred.

We work together with hundreds of local hunger-relief charities to provide the peace-of-mind people get when they know they have enough food. We are also a member of Feeding America, a nationwide network of member food banks and the nation's largest domestic hunger-relief organization.
The Chief Operations Officer (COO) will play a critical role in the continued success at Second Harvest. This individual will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and vision to oversee the Operations and Information Technology areas. The COO will work in partnership with the CEO to implement and monitor the results of the strategic five year plan and be an active contributor to the organization’s overall strategic planning process and execution.
