Job Responsibilities

As a member of the Food Bank’s development department, the Major Gifts Officer plays an integral role in achieving our increasingly ambitious fundraising goals by planning and implementing our major donor development strategy. Reporting to the Director of Leadership Gifts, this position collaborates with members of the 21-person development team, Board of Directors, Donor Relations Committee, Executive Director and other members of the Food Bank’s leadership team. The ideal candidate is a seasoned fundraising professional with experience managing a portfolio of major and legacy donors and prospects, with a primary focus on the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individuals with the capacity to make gifts of $5,000 or more.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Three plus years demonstrated effectiveness in major gifts fundraising with a successful track record of securing 4- to 5-figure gifts from individuals
  • Experience managing multiple prospects/donors, utilizing a moves management approach
  • Strong knowledge of the Bay Area’s philanthropic community
  • Experience in engaging and training high level volunteers and volunteer solicitors
  • Expertise in the best practices and methodologies of major giving including a working knowledge of charitable gift planning and various planned giving vehicles
  • Ability to independently drive projects and build effective, collaborative relationships with internal and external partners
  • Intellectual curiosity, inquisitive nature, excellent listening and problem-solving skills and a sense of humor • Strong planning, organizational and project/time management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects, remain flexible and work effectively under pressure
  • Respect for confidentiality of donor information and a deep understanding of donor ethics
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to creatively engage others in the organization’s work; skilled public speaker
  • Significant level of computer proficiency including MS Office and relational databases (Blackbaud CRM a plus) as well as prospect research tools
  • Valid CA driver’s license and good driving record; access to vehicle for attending off-site meetings and events; ability to attend functions/activities outside of normal work hours Personal Attributes and Values

Physical Requirements: Work is located in an open office environment with shared space among co-workers. Involves some need for a flexible schedule to accommodate Food Bank meetings and events. Physical activities necessary in the performance of this job: sitting for prolonged periods, mobility to move throughout the food bank in performance of duties, event set-up and break down, ability to read and write in English. Ability to use a computer to accomplish the duties of the position. Ability to travel to local events and meetings with donors.

Benefits

This is a full-time exempt position working 37.5 hours per week. The salary for this position is $80,742 annualized. We offer an outstanding benefit package including:
