Job Responsibilities

Collaborate with programmatic and development staff on the management and reporting of all government grants, including sub-contract agreements. Help lead the annual budgeting and planning process; help administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitors progress and changes, and keeps senior management abreast of the organization’s financial status. Help lead the annual reforecast process of the annual budget. Prepare budgets and reporting for specific programs and restricted grants, including donor billing, proper allocation of funds, revenue and expense recognition in accordance with GAAP in the United States of America. Assist in performing complex accounting and financial analyses, leading to the effective management of the organization’s financial assets and resources. Partner with the Senior Director, Finance & Accounting to support the regular monitoring, evaluation and reporting of our programmatic initiatives. Assist with ad-hoc projects as needed.

Application Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree, plus additional related courses, training or relative experience required; 4-6 years of progressively responsible work experience within a profession; Supervisory experience; Knowledge of the principles, procedures, and applications of organizational budgeting and accounting, in addition to Federal, State, and Local government grants; Must have working knowledge of financial systems, organizational budgets, and government grant deliverables and timelines; Knowledge of MS Office and experience using accounting software packages is required; Proficient in generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and preparation of financial statements; Flexibility to work over normal business hours if needed.

City Harvest pioneered food rescue in 1982 and, this year, will collect 55 million pounds of excess food to help feed the nearly 1.4 million New Yorkers struggling to put meals on their tables. Through relationships with farms, grocers, restaurants, and manufacturers, City Harvest collects nutritious food that would otherwise go to waste and delivers it free of charge to 500 soup kitchens, food pantries and other community food programs across the five boroughs. Additional Information

City Harvest seeks an Associate Director, Finance to be a key part of the Finance Department. This position is responsible for managing all financial and administrative aspects of the organization’s annual operating budget and programmatic restricted grants, including donor billing, proper allocation of funds, and revenue and expense recognition in accordance with GAAP. In partnership with the Controller and Program Officers, this position plays a lead role in monitoring, evaluating and reporting of programmatic initiatives.

The Associate Director, Finance will report directly to the Senior Director, Finance & Accounting. The position is located in midtown Manhattan, New York.
